always more to do

Just when you find time to breathe,

the cycle starts anew.

when will I get to play?

as you mumble the words you can’t keep

Your family and friends continue to wait,

but you’ve forgotten again, drifted to sleep.

Waiting, waiting, where are my dreams?

as the days turn into years

“I’m happy” you say as your smile cracks

and your eyes start to water with tears.

Fading, fading, time ticks by,

those who waited moved on

Where are you? still wrapped in work-

hopes and dreams all gone.

Staring, staring, wide awake,

the worries devour your head

Work starts over in an hour or two,

why are you still in bed?

Wondering, wondering, what it all means,

you don’t live, but merely exist

How do you get back to family and friends

all of the memories you missed?

Waking, waking, start to think,

how can I break from these chains?

Where’s that world of peace and love

where nobody stresses, cries or complains?

Dreaming, dreaming, feelings return

I come home to knock on the door

There is my family, no longer waiting

I sit by my dog on the floor.

to be with the ones that love you

Family and friends, gathered together;
